Lantern is a Common relic in Slay the Spire 2 that grants 10 Block at the start of each combat. This opening Block provides immediate protection on your first turn, allowing you to focus your card plays on offense or engine setup without worrying about incoming damage.
Ten Block is a meaningful amount that can fully absorb many turn-1 enemy attacks, especially in the early game. This free Block lets you use your Energy on playing Attacks or Powers instead of defensive cards on the crucial opening turn, accelerating your deck's game plan without sacrificing survivability.
Lantern is universally strong and benefits every character and build. It is especially valuable in aggressive decks that want to spend their first turn dealing damage rather than defending, and in engine decks that need turn 1 to set up Powers and scaling effects. The relic has no anti-synergies and pairs well with Orichalcum and other passive Block effects. As a Common relic, Lantern is one of the most reliable and consistently useful pickups in the game.
