Skulking Colony

elite

The Skulking Colony is a resilient elite in the Underdocks that frustrates aggressive decks with its Hardened Shell ability, which caps the maximum HP it can lose per turn. No matter how much damage you deal in a single turn, the Colony will only lose a fixed amount of health, turning the fight into a marathon rather than a sprint. It simultaneously attacks and pollutes your deck with status cards, making the longer fight even more painful.

Each turn, the Skulking Colony delivers moderate damage while shuffling harmful status cards into your draw and discard piles. These status cards clog your hand and reduce the quality of your draws, compounding the difficulty of the already extended fight. The Hardened Shell mechanic means you need consistent damage every turn rather than one explosive burst, fundamentally changing how you approach the encounter compared to most other elites.

Sustain cards like Reaper and Feed help the Ironclad maintain HP over the long fight. The relic Medical Kit allows you to play status cards as if they were normal cards, negating the Colony's pollution strategy. A Regen Potion provides passive healing across multiple turns, which is exactly what a prolonged fight demands. Noxious Fumes is excellent because it deals automatic poison damage each turn, perfectly matching the sustained-damage approach the Hardened Shell requires.

The Silent thrives here with Noxious Fumes and other passive poison sources dealing consistent damage that respects the per-turn cap while also bypassing any Block the Colony generates. The Defect's Frost Orbs provide reliable turn-over-turn Block to survive the extended encounter. The Necrobinder's summons absorb incoming attacks while steady damage ticks away. Avoid building your Underdocks deck around burst damage if you expect to face the Skulking Colony.
