Void
Unplayable. Ethereal. Whenever you draw Void, lose 1 Energy.
Void is one of the most punishing status cards in Slay the Spire 2. It is Unplayable and Ethereal, meaning it automatically exhausts at end of turn if still in hand, but its real danger lies in its draw penalty: whenever you draw Void, you immediately lose 1 Energy. In a game where most turns give you only 3 Energy, losing even 1 Energy to a Void draw can cripple your entire turn's output.
Void is particularly devastating against the Defect, whose orb-channeling strategy often relies on having full Energy to play Power cards like Defragment and Echo Form. The Silent's card draw-heavy builds with Acrobatics, Backflip, and Expertise are also vulnerable since more draws mean more chances to hit Void. The Ironclad's Battle Trance and Shrug It Off draw extra cards and can trigger Void's penalty. Managing Void requires either exhausting it before it cycles back, or minimizing draw to avoid triggering its effect.
Void is inflicted by dark-themed enemies and encounters that target your Energy economy. Against Void-generating enemies, prioritize exhaust tools. The Ethereal keyword means Void self-destructs after one turn in hand, but if your deck cycles quickly, you may draw it again from the discard pile before it exhausts. Cards like Headbutt that manipulate draw pile order can accidentally put a Void on top. When facing Void-heavy encounters, consider slowing your draw engine and relying on fewer, more impactful card plays per turn.
