Regent

The Regent is a noble warrior-sovereign and one of the two new playable characters introduced in Slay the Spire 2. With 75 starting HP and the starting relic Divine Right, the Regent brings an entirely new resource system to the game: Stars. Stars are accumulated through gameplay and spent at the Forge to upgrade and transform cards, giving the Regent unparalleled control over deck evolution throughout a run.
The Regent's unique energy type is Stars, which functions as a secondary resource alongside the standard 3 Energy per turn. Cards like Venerate and Falling Star generate Stars alongside their normal Block or damage effects, allowing the Regent to build resources without sacrificing combat effectiveness. The Forge mechanic lets the Regent spend accumulated Stars to enhance cards in ways that other characters cannot, creating increasingly powerful custom cards as the run progresses.
The Regent's playstyle rewards long-term planning and resource management. Unlike the Ironclad's immediate Strength scaling or the Silent's Poison stacking, the Regent invests Stars during non-combat moments to create a deck that grows exponentially stronger. This makes the Regent particularly powerful in the late game, where forged cards can carry fights that would overwhelm other characters. The Sovereign Blade mechanic gives the Regent access to a powerful weapon that improves with each Forge upgrade.
The Regent excels in longer runs where the Star economy has time to mature, making higher Ascension levels and Act 3 bosses like Doormaker and Test Subject #C10 actually easier for the Regent than for some other characters. Early acts can be challenging while the Regent builds their Star reserves, so careful pathing through the Overgrowth or Underdocks is essential. Compared to the Necrobinder's summoning complexity, the Regent's progression is more linear but equally rewarding, and the Forge mechanic gives experienced players a level of deck customization unmatched by any other character in Slay the Spire 2.
