Overgrowth
The Overgrowth is one of two Act 1 environments in Slay the Spire 2, serving as the first region players encounter when choosing the 1a path. It is a dense, verdant wilderness overrun with mutated plant life, fungal growths, and corrupted creatures. The lush but threatening environment sets the tone for the early game, where players are still building their deck and learning the basics of each character.
Normal enemies in the Overgrowth include Fogmog, Fuzzy Wurm Crawler, Nibbit, Shrinker Beetle, Twig/Leaf Slimes, and Vine Shambler. These encounters test fundamental combat skills and are generally manageable with starter decks. The Overgrowth's elite enemies are significantly more dangerous: Bygone Effigy, Byrdonis, and Phrog Parasite each present unique challenges that reward specific card choices. Byrdonis in particular is a memorable elite whose Byrdonis Egg quest card can be obtained as a reward.
The Overgrowth's boss pool includes Ceremonial Beast, Kin Priest, and Vantom. Ceremonial Beast tests your ability to deal with adds and split damage. Kin Priest demands sustained single-target damage output. Vantom is widely considered one of the hardest Act 1 bosses due to its aggressive attack pattern that punishes slow decks. For the Ironclad, Bash into Vulnerable-exploiting attacks handles most Overgrowth enemies. The Silent should prioritize Poison application from Deadly Poison and Noxious Fumes. The Defect relies on Lightning orbs from Zap and Dualcast for early damage. The Regent and Necrobinder use their unique starters to establish their resource engines.
When choosing between the Overgrowth and the Underdocks at the start of a run, consider that the Overgrowth tends to have slightly easier normal enemies but its bosses can be punishing for decks that lack AoE or burst damage. The Overgrowth's events and card rewards lean toward nature-themed effects. Players aiming for Ascension climbs often develop preferences between the two Act 1 paths based on their character choice and starting card offerings.
