Phrog Parasite
elite
The Phrog Parasite is a deceptive elite in the Overgrowth that punishes unprepared players with its ability to summon additional enemies and inject status cards into your deck. What begins as a seemingly straightforward fight can quickly spiral into chaos as parasitic spawn appear and your draws become polluted with useless cards.
The Phrog Parasite attacks with moderate damage while periodically adding status cards to your draw pile. When defeated, it can spawn smaller parasites that continue the assault, effectively extending the fight and forcing you to deal with multiple targets. This mechanic means that simply rushing down the main body is not always sufficient; you need a plan for handling the aftermath as well.
Area-of-effect attacks like Whirlwind and Dagger Spray are invaluable for cleaning up spawned parasites efficiently. The relic Medical Kit lets you play status cards for free, turning the Phrog's pollution strategy into a non-issue. A Smoke Bomb potion provides an emergency escape if the fight gets out of hand, while a Fire Potion can help burst down the main body before too many spawns appear. Cards with exhaust effects such as Burning Pact or True Grit can remove status cards from your deck mid-combat.
The Ironclad handles this fight well with Whirlwind for AoE and exhaust synergies to purge status cards. The Regent's Star mechanic provides flexible energy for dealing with multiple threats. The Silent can struggle if relying on single-target poison, so having at least one AoE option like Die Die Die is important before taking this elite path in the Overgrowth.
