Hive

The Hive is the Act 2 environment in Slay the Spire 2, a massive insectoid colony teeming with dangerous arthropod enemies, parasitic growths, and hive-minded swarms. Act 2 represents a significant difficulty spike from Act 1, with enemies that hit harder, have more HP, and use more complex attack patterns. By this point, players should have a functional deck archetype established.

Normal enemies in the Hive include various Bowlbugs, Chompers, Exoskeleton Pack, Hunter Killer, Louse Progenitor, Mytes, Ovicopter, Spiny Toad, The Obscura, Thieving Hopper, and Tunneler. Many of these enemies appear in groups, making AoE cards like Whirlwind for the Ironclad, Dagger Spray for the Silent, Sweeping Beam for the Defect, and Bone Shards for the Necrobinder essential. Elite enemies include Decimillipede, Entomancer, and Infested Prism, all of which are substantially more dangerous than Act 1 elites.

The Hive's boss pool features Kaiser Crab, Knowledge Demon, and The Insatiable. Kaiser Crab generates enormous amounts of Block, making Poison from the Silent and Doom from the Necrobinder the most effective strategies since both bypass Block entirely. Knowledge Demon shuffles status cards into your deck and punishes thin decks. The Insatiable is an aggressive boss that floods your deck with status cards while dealing heavy damage. For the Ironclad, Demon Form and Barricade strategies come online in Act 2, transforming the character's power level. The Defect's Echo Form and Biased Cognition can create unstoppable Orb engines.

Act 2 is where deck quality matters most. Players who took too many mediocre cards in Act 1 will find the Hive's enemies overwhelming, while focused decks with clear win conditions thrive. Card removal and deck thinning become critical priorities. The Hive's events can offer powerful rewards but often come with significant risks. All five characters should have their core engine established by mid-Act 2 or risk being overwhelmed by the boss encounters.
