Card
Wound
Unplayable.
Wound is a colorless status card that is Unplayable, meaning it occupies a hand slot without providing any benefit. Unlike Burn or Void, Wound has no additional negative effect beyond taking up space, but in a game where every card draw matters, a dead card in hand can be the difference between life and death. Wounds dilute your deck and reduce the chance of drawing your key cards when you need them most.
Managing Wounds effectively requires exhaust or discard tools. The Ironclad's Second Wind exhausts all non-Attack cards including Wounds and generates Block for each, making it a powerful counter. Burning Pact can exhaust a single Wound while drawing 2 replacement cards. The Silent's Survivor discards a Wound while generating Block, and Prepared cycles through Wounds by drawing and discarding. The Defect's Compact transforms status cards into Fuel. For the Necrobinder, cards that exhaust your hand like Eidolon can clear Wounds along with other clutter.
Wounds are inflicted by various enemies across all acts, particularly Punch Construct in the Underdocks and certain elite encounters. The boss Lagavulin Matriarch can add Wounds to your deck as part of her attack pattern. When building your deck, consider how well you can handle status card pollution. Characters with natural exhaust synergies like the Ironclad with Dark Embrace and Feel No Pain actually benefit from receiving Wounds, turning a liability into card draw and Block generation.
